Born and raised in a musical Yoruba household, his passion for singing started early on, inspired by Nigerian music heavyweights like Onyeka Onwenu and King Sunny Ade. Though Tokz dabbled in hip-hop and R&B, his artistic focus shifted back towards his Nigerian heritage, coinciding with the rise of Afrobeats in the UK.
Inspired by its rich sound and deep cultural history, Tokz felt a powerful connection with the genre and began developing his own sound.
Creatively driven by love and relationships, blending English and Yoruba in his lyrics, Tokz cites soulful pop-leaning acts like LeAnn Rimes, Gabrielle, Seal, All Saints and Backstreet Boys as heavy influences on his emotional songwriting style. He also includes Afrobeats musicians like Davido, Kuami Eugene and FireBoy DML as key influences on his style as an Afrobeats artist.
